For many low income families the ability to cloth diaper their babies and children is not always the best option. Access to washers and dryers is not always easy and if they are available the utilities may not be turned on at home. Laundry detergent is expensive and another item not available from assistance programs while transportation to public laundry is not always easy to arrange much less daycare while there or having to take all the kids along. Large amounts of quarters are needed to run the washers and dryers and not all facilities allow diapers to be washed in public machines.
Nestlings previously had the pleasure of helping families get cloth diapers through our Cloth Diaper Program, a partnership with Ecobuns, Baby + Co. However, due to a lack of storage space, Nestlings has had to discontinue our Cloth Diaper Program.
But don’t worry, help is still available! For families that have the resources and ability to choose cloth diapers for their babies, please contact Allison Hoving Baraza at Empowering Youth Global Connection (EYGC) by emailing info@eygc.org or text 616-834-2299 (please text instead of calling).
EYGC works in West Michigan and Kenya. They work alongside the community to provide education that will enhance the lives of the youth and the community supporting the youth. In West Michigan, EYGC wants all of our youth to thrive from day one, so they have implemented a program called Circle of Everyday Parenting: Global Edition which offers everyone access to free cloth diapers. They also have a parenting group and a teens group for Newcomers (New American, Refugee, and Immigrant). In Kenya, they are helping to support high school and post-secondary students whose families cannot afford school fees.
